Healing Arbor

The Arbor was created with those touched by cancer on the Kingston, NY waterfront, between 1997 and 2010, followed by a stay on a nearby hospital campus through 2017. This highly trafficked public place, originally intended for a six month exhibition, was granted a long term stay by the City due to its enthusiastic appeal. It was transformational on several levels, forging my path towards the field of art and wellness, as well as the creation of contemplative environments. Every few years the arbor was uplifted with new components created by a diverse group of patients, survivors and loved ones. Physical improvements over time included a new steel dome, benches, better lighting and landscaping. The arbor was a meeting place, a sanctuary for contemplation and solace, and
a site for special events.
